Silicone denture made of soft flexible plastic – Thermosens

The soft ThermoSens denture is a flexible, hypoallergenic denture that fits closely to the mucosa and practically does not break during normal eating. Partial dentures have metal-free clasps, and adaptation to them is quick.

What is a soft denture?

Lower denture made of soft plastic

Making dentures from soft plastic is a new method that has become popular in recent years. Dentures made of standard pink plastic are hard and in many cases uncomfortable when eating, while dentures made of soft plastic are more comfortable for the patient and fit closely to the relief of the mucosa.

Soft dentures (so-called silicone dentures) are highly aesthetic and look no different from standard acrylic dentures.

What are the advantages?

Partial silicone denture made of Valplast
  • They are hypoallergenic and can be used for patients who are allergic to the standard plastic used in prosthetic dentistry.
  • Metal-free clasps. In partial dentures the clasps are cast from the same material as the denture itself, which improves the aesthetics even further.
  • They practically cannot break during normal eating or when dropped on the floor, thanks to their flexibility.
  • They do not discolour or absorb odours. The modern material (ThermoSens) does not, unlike the Valplast material used until recently.
  • Repairs are possible, as well as adding teeth or clasps.

How is it made and how long does it take to get used to?

Making dentures from flexible (soft) plastic goes through the same stages as standard acrylic dentures (read more…).

Soft denture in water – cleaning the denture

Adaptation to them is quick and they are comfortable for the patient. It is extremely important to maintain strict hygiene and to clean the dentures regularly so that they keep their original appearance for longer.

What about silicone plastic for rebasing?

Another material is silicone plastic, which is used only for rebasing dentures made of standard pink plastic (applying a layer of silicone plastic to the surfaces of the denture that contact the oral mucosa).

Only part of the denture can also be rebased if the denture-bearing area has changed as a result of surgery. This ensures atraumatic transmission of chewing pressure in the area of the operation. In this way the advantages of both methods are combined – the strength and stability of standard plastic and the comfort of silicone plastic.

How much does it cost?

A soft flexible denture costs about 460 € per denture. All prices are in the Price list.
